Vineyard Soils in Central Otago

This is the first in a series of talks on Central Otago vineyard soils, how to manage them, and their relationship to wine flavours. Ian Percy from Aitkens Folly Vineyard and Roger Gibson of Lowburn Ferry , both passionate local soil enthusiasts will be hosting the first session.

Ian Percy will describe the geological history of Central Otago, where the soils come from, what the base materials are, and how these influence our soils. Roger Gibson will then tell us more about the special characteristics of Central Otago soils from a vineyard perspective. These talks are the introduction to further talks in this series when we will focus on how to use and interpret soil tests, and the relationships between soils and wine flavours.
